Hey middle school families!

Strengthening Families Program 10-14 starts just two weeks from tonight! Join school staff members, Jay Thompson and Bethany LaRose, along with Jefferson County Extension Staff, to help your family learn to manage emotions, set goals, avoid peer pressure, make better decisions, and create better relationships. Youth and their parents or caregivers will participate in fun, hands-on activities, games, and discussions to help parents and caregivers learn how to show love while setting limits, how to listen to their child, and how to help family members show appreciation to each other. All families have strengths; this program will help your family become even stronger!

This program will be offered on Mondays from October 13 to November 24 at the Fairfield Middle School at no cost to families. A meal is provided each week at 5:30 PM, with the program from 6-8 PM. To register online, go to: https://go.iastate.edu/BTMAAZ If you have questions, contact Jay Thompson at FMS at jay.thompson@fairfieldsfuture.org or Courtney Burkhalter at Extension at 641-472-4166 or cburk@iastate.edu. This program is brought to you by Fairfield Middle School, Jefferson County Extension, and Jefferson County Opioid Funding. We were honored to have a guest speaker visit 7th grade English classes on Thursday. M. Reding Shonka, author of the Iowa chapter in the book The Haunted States of America came to FMS. She shared her experiences as an author, read her story "The Angel of Death," and took questions from the students. She led students in Writing/Grammar classes through some writing activities, as well. The biggest takeaway M. left us with? Failing is part of life, but when you face failure and rejection, don't give up your dreams.... TRY AGAIN!

Fairfield Middle School Families,

We will be kicking off our school fundraiser on Monday, September 29. The students are allowed to use their phones if they have one. If not, they can use their iPads. However, to get registered they will need a phone number.

We will be getting all the students registered and set up for the fundraiser and if we have time, have them enter 5 contacts and reach out to ask for support. If you have a list of friends/family they can reach out to you may send it with your students on Monday. On Monday we will send you an email with more information to continue the fundraiser. We wanted to let you know that it is coming! Have a great weekend!

FMS PLTW (Project Lead the Way) students had the opportunity today to present their foot orthosis prototypes to Dr. Allison, a physical therapist from Van Buren County Hospital. Huge thanks to Dr. Allison for coming to help our PLTW group. Our students did a good job of presenting. Way to go!
