Fairfield Community School District has 21 different athletic programs to offer its students.

Fall Athletics

The fall athletic season begins in August and wraps up in October for the middle school and for the high school it ends in November.  During this season, Fairfield students have opportunities to participate in boys cross country, girls cross country, football, volleyball, or high school girls swimming.

Winter Athletics

Middle school starts the winter season in October and the high school gets it started in November.   Opportunities for students during this time of the year include boys basketball, girls basketball, wrestling, high school boys swimming at Ottumwa, and high school boys and girls bowling.

At the middle school, basketball teams split the winter season.  The 7th grade boys and 8th grade girls compete during the first half of the season.  This season starts in October and finishes in December.  The 8th grade boys and 7th grade girls compete in the second half of the season.  The second season begins in early January and ends in February.  Middle school wrestling, however, consists of both 7th and 8th graders competing jointly during the entire winter season.

Spring Athletics

Following the long, bitterly cold winter season, comes the spring sports.  Students in Fairfield have many opportunities to participate in athletics in the months of March, April, May and June.  These opportunities include boys and girls track, high school boys and girls tennis, high school boys and girls golf, and high school boys and girls soccer.

Summer Athletics

In May, the summer sports begin with softball and baseball games.  Regular season softball and baseball games wrap up in the month of July.
