This year we were recognized by the Iowa State Repeot card as being “high performing.” This achievement is a tremendous honor and recognition for our students, staff, district, and community. We have a lot to be thankful for and are blessed to work with the best students❤️
Congratulations! We would also like to say a special thank you to Mareyn and Taryn for hosting this event. Public speaking can be daunting to many. They spoke to over 550 people today👏 These young ladies blew us out of the water with their confidence and ability to engage the crowd today. Way to go!

Fairfield Community School District (FCSD) Press Release
RE: Follow-up to incidents at Varsity Boys Basketball on January 23, 2023
In light of some of the publicity and inaccurate reports about the gym environment and police involvement at the Fairfield vs. Iowa City, City High Boys Varsity Basketball game on Monday, January 23, 2023, FCSD is compelled to provide clarification that demonstrates our community values and the happenings that lead to the end of the game.
FCSD supports a safe environment for all, including our competitors. We commend the Fairfield and City High student bodies, athletes, coaches, and staff for demonstrating both of our community values of inclusion, safety, and respect during the game and subsequent events following the game. Despite a charged atmosphere that included the ejections of a coach, spectator, and a player altercation, Fairfield and City High students and fans followed instructions avoiding additional interactions. Fairfield and City High administrators and staff took great care to de-escalate the situation.
FCSD is aware that Iowa City, City High School administration has contacted the Iowa High School Athletic Association regarding allegations surrounding the communication between game officials and the City High basketball coaches. FCSD is willing to provide any information that might be able to assist in an investigation.
After the altercation involving players, Fairfield administrators decided that the teams should take a 5-minute break in the locker rooms to allow the coaches time to regroup and calm the players. Fairfield administrators safely escorted City High coaches and players to a locker room. At this time, the City High coaches and administration decided it would be best to forfeit the game. Following the decision to forfeit, FHS administration safely escorted City High coaches and players from the locker room to their bus.
Fairfield police were called at the end of the game to support the safety of all individuals. The police did not enter the building during this event. Fairfield Police stayed at the high school and were present when the City High team was boarding the bus, and an Iowa State Patrol trooper offered to follow the bus out of town and did so without incident.

Aiddy Phomvisay, FHS Principal

Due to weather conditions, Fairfield Schools are on a 2-hour delay.

At the end of the Fairfield vs Iowa City High boys' varsity basketball game, there was an altercation between players that required coaches, officials, and administrators to safely intervene. Teams were escorted to separate locker rooms for a five-minute break. During that time, the Iowa City High coaches determined it was best to forfeit the game. All students, coaches, and fans left safely. Fairfield appreciates the help from fans, officials, coaches, and Iowa City High administration in attendance for their help in de-escalating the situation.

And they are off 🏎…6th grade science students are testing out their mouse trap cars for distance and speed this week! After testing their cars they are making revisions based on what they observed during the trial runs! Great critical thinking and problem solving skills!

In 2021, Fairfield Community School District asked voters for a new $30 million Middle School building, and the voters did not support it. The district listened to voters and re-evaluated the process to look at a long-range plan for the district. A facilities assessment was completed in 2020, and the district partnered with the architect firm FEH Design. FEH Design then reviewed the assessment. The assessment identified that hundreds of thousands of dollars need to be invested into each of the four school buildings for maintenance, safety, and ADA requirements. The district recruited a community advisory task force to look at long-term visions for the district’s facilities.
The school board wants to make wise decisions that align with the community's long-term visions and financial capabilities so funding is not expended in a short-sighted way. Please take a few minutes to respond to this important survey.

So thankful for our amazing team of staff at FMS❤️ Dawn and Janice were hard at work this morning with the canceling of school early due to no electricity at Pence. The phones were ringing off the hook for over an hour and students piling up in the office. They did it with ease and a smile on their face😊 We appreciate our office secretaries in keeping our ship afloat🚢
