Shout out Kala Miller - High School Science and Ag Teacher

Kala Miller has been a part of the Fairfield District since 2017. This is the start of her fourteenth year of teaching.  Kala started her career at Twin Cedars in Bussey, IA,  where she taught science and agriculture for three years.  She also taught at Cardinal Community School District for five before transitioning to Fairfield.  Kala is joined in the district by her husband Eric, who is part of the Maintenance Crew, her daughter Taylor and son Jordan who attend the Middle School, and daughter Morgan who is a Kindergartener at Washington. Kala teaches Integrated Science II, Anatomy and Physiology, and this year is teaching Ag Business at the high school.  Kala is an active member of the TLC team at the high school. When Kala isn't shuttling her children to their activities, she enjoys spending time growing vegetables and flowers in her garden.  She also cans and preserves the produce her family grows.

A staff member recognized Kala for all the work this summer. They stated, “Kala worked tirelessly over the summer to beautify our district buildings. She found such joy in tearing out the old and putting in the new. Even after the start of school, you will see her around the various buildings checking on her landscaping wonders and ensuring they are hydrated and doing well. Kala's work at Pence has truly given it a facelift, and we appreciate the time and work she put into our flower beds”. Other staff mentioned the beautiful flowers by the band room set in kettle drums.

The band drum set looksso inviting to the hs building and is a novel idea for planters. Another colleague stated that Washington's planters bring sunshine to the area, and they are so glad Kala gave attention to the beautification of our district this summer. Thank you, Kala, for your work in the building serving students and outside with the beautification of the flower beds.
