Stephanie and Gordon

Self-described “rebel with a cause” fighting the war of mediocrity in school food service,  Stephanie has been the Food Service Director since June of 2016. Prior to coming to Fairfield, Stephanie got her start in school food service at Davis County Schools in 2008.  Stephanie is so proud of the food service team at Fairfield and counts it a privilege to work with each of the food service staff.  Since 2016, Stephanie and her team have added fruit and vegetable bars to the middle and high school meal service, increased the number of entrees offered in each building, offered local farm-to-school produce, and opened a full-service kitchen at Washington Elementary.  The district has purchased new combi ovens in each building so that the food service department has state-of-the-art equipment to provide the freshest meals possible to our students.  Last year the food service department served 247,620 meals in 170 days for an average of 1,456 meals a day.

Stephanie is the current Vice President of the School Nutrition Association of Iowa.  SNAI is an organization of school nutrition professionals committed to advancing the quality of school meal programs through education and advocacy.  In her years of SNAI membership, she has had the opportunity to travel to Washington DC to talk with our legislators about school nutrition and how the laws they pass affect our students. She also meets with our state legislators at the state capitol to discuss school nutrition on a State level.

Stephanie's staff love her and appreciate her leadership. Parents and community members rave about the lunches served to our students. If you want to know someone passionate about finding ways to feed the people in our school district - Stephanie Hawkins is it! Others have said, Stephanie finds ways to make eating school lunch fun. We are so lucky to have a passionate “lunch lady” making a difference for our students and staff. Thank you, Stephanie, for all you do each day to bring a quality lunch and a quality lunch program to Fairfield.
