John, Drew and Blair piping

John has been in the district for the past 12 years and eight years as the Technology Director. The first 4 years in the district he was the elementary music teacher and served students at Washington, Lincoln, Libertyville, the middle school and even helped with some lessons and groups at the high school one year.  Before joining Fairfield Schools, John taught music and was the technology coordinator for 15 years at Harmony and 2 years of elementary music in Wisconsin before that.  John was recently recognized by ITEC - Iowa Technology and Education Connection as a Rockstar.

What brings John joy?  Well, first he would say it is family.  Any time that he can spend with his family in any sort of capacity is cherished.  If he can spend time with family at the cottage he and Heidi own in the northwoods of Wisconsin makes it even sweeter.  While spending time there, he loves to connect with extended family and hear stories of the generations before him.  If that time includes playing the pipes at sunset with his sons, that might be the icing on the cake.

John also finds joy in music.  From playing the pipes with his sons at the cottage or with the Southeast Iowa Regional Fire Honor Guard, to acting on stage with all of his family members and singing and playing with them at church, his heart bursts with joy and happiness.

John and his wife Heidi, who teaches at FHS, were very happy when their family increased this summer with 2 weddings.  Drew was married in June and Haley was married in November.  These large life events took place on top of the fact that their youngest son, Blair graduated in the spring and has entered adult life.  They continue to live in Fairfield with two dogs, Jade and Scrappy, and help to take care of John’s mom.  Family is life.
