Fairfield, IA | August 2026 – The Fairfield Community School District Board of Education met at noon on August 25th 2026, to formally review the petition submitted regarding the district’s proposed General Obligation (GO) Bond Referendum. The petition received enough valid signatures to meet the required threshold, meaning the bond referendum language will officially appear on the November 3, 2026, general election ballot.
With the required number of signatures met, FCSD residents will have the opportunity to vote on the proposed $24.8 million General Obligation Bond Referendum this November. If approved, the bond would provide funding for phase II construction of the middle school facility including new fine arts spaces, gyms, a new library, CTE areas, a commons/lunch space, and a new kitchen. In addition, the current levy rate would NOT increase.
The district will continue to provide factual information about the proposed referendum,
including the scope of the project, estimated costs, frequently asked questions, and voting

Ballot language will read as follows:
“Shall the Board of Directors of the Fairfield Community School District in the Counties of Jefferson, Henry, Van Buren, Wapello and Washington, State of Iowa, be authorized to contract indebtedness and issue General Obligation Bonds in an amount not to exceed $24,850,000 to provide funds to build, furnish, and equip additions to and to remodel, repair, improve, and equip the middle school building, including fine arts, career and technical education, library, commons area, kitchen, and gymnasium spaces, including related site improvements?”
