The 5th graders in Mrs. McHugh's class and Ms. Alexander's class held a mock trial in their classrooms to go along with their argumentative unit. The 5th grade students will be going to the Jefferson County Courthouse on May 23rd to hold a series of three trials for their final project, so their classes set up their classrooms to simulate what the courtroom will look like so students can get a sense of what it will feel like. Lots of fun things are happening in 5th grade ELA!

The 5th graders in Ms. Copeland’s class have been learning about matter and what molecules make up the matter. They worked on chemical properties this week and learned what happens when combining different substances.!

Come on out TONIGHT for your last chance to see the FMS play in action! One Stoplight Town is a story about people from a town so small that you might drive through without taking a second look. But if you stopped for just a moment, you might see a boy and girl fall in love, a cantankerous grocery store owner coping with change, someone returning home while someone else thinks about leaving, a beauty queen and a drum major striking up a friendship, and a handy (wo)man taking it all in while she fixes what is broken. These stories are filled with fun characters, lots of humor, plenty of heart, and the theme that change comes for us all, whether we are ready or not.
