Last Friday, Mrs.McHugh and Ms.Alexander took all 5th grade students to the Jefferson County Courthouse to close out their final unit in ELA, which was their argumentative unit. The students got to plan and prepare opening statements, arguments, rebuttals, and closing statements on their topic to present to the "surprise judges" (the students' parents) for their trials. Each student got to be a part of the jury panel, the audience, and their own trial. This was such a fun way for students to practice their public speaking skills, as well as the planning that took place to ensure that they were prepared for their trial! What a great way to close out their ELA learning!

The students in Ms. Copeland's science class recently had a competition with who could be the most creative at designing a model of the molecules of matter. These students were the winners and were each gifted a $5 gift certificate to the Dairy Bar. Thanks Emily Harryman for your generous donation to the winners, Kinley Adam, Eli Carlson, and Talia Felt!

Our FMS Bookworms competed in Battle of the Books or BOB last week. The Bookworms answered 100 questions over 10 books which was no easy feat. With over 30 teams competing in the tough 5-8 category, FMS did their best and represented our district well! A big congratulations goes out to these students: Jacob, Nancy, Tristen, Vishal, Avery, & Taryn!

Over the past few weeks, 8th graders have been studying and evaluating children's books for the purpose of creating their very own book. This week, their projects came to fruition when their teacher, Mr. Drish and our school librarian, Mrs. Miller, took them to Washington and Pence Elementaries to read their finished books to our younger students. Amazing work to our 8th graders and our teachers for their collaboration!

Amazing job to our middle school band members at their final concert of the year on Tuesday! Their growth this year has been incredible. We are lucky to have such great musicians and supportive families there to enjoy the concert! Special shout out to our band director, Danae Coleman! Mrs. Coleman is a Fairfield graduate and we have been so lucky to welcome her home this year and have her serving our students at FMS. A special big thanks also to the families who helped get tables and chairs back in place after the concert. Many hands make light work, and it takes a village to keep our school running. We're grateful to everyone who transforms our space in such a short amount of time!
