Teachers worked hard this morning in their leader in me action teams to plan out events and student leadership opportunities for the rest of the school year. We also took time to reflect on the first quarter and how parent teacher conferences went. Tomorrow teachers will continue work as a district with Four Oakes and trauma informed care.

Today, after working through their debate practice skills, students played the classic party game, Mafia. The focus of the activity was to recall and apply the debate skill practice from yesterday’s lesson "The Debate Do's and Donts". The kids were not only focusing on being deliberate with their tone of voice, but their body language as well. Love the creativity and fun!

FMS Library hosted a virtual author visit for 8th graders this morning! Author Andy Marino spoke to students about his books, the writing process, his life, and answered questions from our students! Eighth graders also received a copy of Marino's latest book which came out last month, Escape from East Berlin, to add to their personal library. It was an awesome experience! #FMSreads @ScholasticBookFairs

During Trojan Time this morning students worked together as a team to collaborate and work on communication skills! Students were tasked with building a maze and taking somebody through the maze with their eyes closed. This led students to communicate with clarity to one another. Great work teams!

I am loving how our students are advocating for new leadership positions at FMS! Arissa, Addison, and Abi met with us today to propose adding a newspaper to our school. This will be a student leadership position as they work as a team to construct a newspaper each month. They’ve created a design and layout as a plan already. They will start meeting today and work to get news out to students, staff, and parents on a monthly basis to start. 📰 These leaders will be in charge of sending out applications to our students and will be in charge of hiring for newspaper spots on their team. Can’t wait to see this unfold and what they come up with! This is so exciting to see! Way to go! 🗞

Students in our Leader In Me action team worked on their service day learning projects and T-shirt designs today. These students are collaborating and working to design T-shirts for all staff and students for our spring service learning projects. Can’t wait to see what they come up with! We believe it’s so important to get students involved and empower them in the process of what we are working on and doing with Leader In Me and learning. Couldn’t be more proud!
