Jean is an Albia High School graduate of the class of 1979. She has been teaching special education at Fairfield High School since 2005. Presently, she teaches Environmental Science, Earth Science, Life Skills Reading, Life Skills Writing, Geography and Resource. Prior to accepting her present position at FHS, Mrs. Mercer taught special education at Belle Plaine Junior High.
Mrs. Mercer attended Indian Hills Community College, Iowa State University, and Buena Vista University, Ottumwa Center. She graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in diversified education in 1986 and earned her bachelor of arts degree in elementary education in 2001. In 2003, she earned endorsements in 5-12 multi-categorical special education/resource and elementary reading. Mrs. Mercer has an elementary education degree along with secondary special education. Mrs. Mercer earned endorsements in secondary reading and special education strategist II in 2013.
