Important Food Service Update- Free Meals for Children 2-18 years old

Dear Parents/Guardians,

On August 31st, 2020, the USDA extended waivers allowing school districts that qualify to provide meals free of charge to children 2-18 years of age.

These waivers are extended until December 31st, 2020 or until funding runs out, whichever comes first.

Fairfield CSD will participate in this program starting Monday, September 14, 2020. There is no sign up needed for your students when they are eating meals in the schools. Meal sign up is needed for meals when your student is learning at-home virtually or on at-home days during hybrid model. Non-schooled/non-school aged children can sign up for these meals as well. Please note that all meals are free for all children, but participation is not required.

Q: What meals are included?

A: Breakfast and Lunch.

Q: What if my child brings cold lunch and wants milk from the school, will it be free?

A: No, items must be a complete menued meal to be covered under the waiver.

Q: What if my child wants an extra juice or milk with the meal they receive from the school, will it be free?

A: No, any item that a student uses that is extra will be charged as an a la carte item.

Q: How long will my student receive free meals?

A: Meals will be provided through December 18, 2020 on school days only or until funding runs out, whichever comes first. Meal service days will follow the school calendar found on fairfieldsfuture.org.

Q: What happens when funding is no longer available?

A: Your students’ meals will be charged according to their qualified lunch status- free, reduced or paid. If you haven’t filled out a Free/Reduced form for the 20/21 School Year, please contact Stephanie Hawkins (641) 472-2655 ext. 6703 or stephanie.hawkins@fairfieldsfuture.org. This will ensure that all meal statuses are up to date when funding has ended.

Q: How will I know that funding has ended?

A: We will notify families that funding has ended via the school’s website fairfieldsfuture.org, FCSD Lunch Lady Facebook page and via email.

Q: How do I sign up for these meals?

A: Sign up opens weekly on Thursdays. You will need to submit a separate order form for each child/student and submit by Sunday at 9 p.m. Sign up on the school’s website- fairfieldsfuture.org > Departments > Food Service, click the post that says “Sign Up Here”, the links are posted within. You will need to sign up for this WEEKLY.
