FHS Smashers To Compete In Pocahontas This Saturday

Saturday, Nov. 30th

This weekend, Nov. 30th, eight of the FHS Smash Bros. Esports Team will be traveling to Pocahontas, IA for their first live tournament.  For the last few months, many of the high school students have been participating in Smash Bros. Ultimate a couple times each week after school.  Several times they have had scrimmages with other schools during this time also.  However, this time, members of the club will be traveling for a live, Face-To-Face tournament.

The Pocahontas Chamber of Commerce is hosting this tournament in conjunction with an Artwalk happening that day.  The tournament format will be somewhat determined by the number of participants that show that day.  If there are enough players, they will face off in groups of four to begin.  The top two in each quad will move to the winner bracket while the bottom two will move the the consolation bracket.  Once that round is completed, then the players will compete in 1v1 competitions until a champion is crowned.  The winning participant will receive a game of their choice valued at $60.00.  Click Here for more information about the tournament.

It is also exciting to see this because the club is trying to find ways to raise funds to purchase new and updated equipment.  Hopefully, after seeing how this tournament is run and the interest in this tournament, the club could host one on their own in the near future.

Watch the website for results from the tournament.
