FCSD Website will be getting a facelift soon...

New look starts July 1st

Story image 1_0

The current Fairfield Community Schools website has served the district for many years as it has brought news and excitement from the schools to the community.  However, even though the purpose has not changed, the look has grown old.  The website was needing a facelift and a new look.  Pictured below is the new look that will start on July 1st.

This was not a simple, easy change and flip of a switch.  Many months of discussion and revamping and revising has gone into this change.  As you can see, the new layout utilizes a large, rotating image to grab the attention of anyone visiting the website.  This is a great way to show the public the great things going on in our district as well as the great students we have in our classrooms.

Looking closely at the bar below the rotating images, there are some chances for personal customization.  This section is divided into three different columns.  Currently, the new site will have "News/Highlights" in the first column, "Live Streaming Events/Twitter" in the second column and "Quicklinks" in the third column.  If the viewers preference is to have the Twitter feed showing instead of the Live Stream feed, they can make that choice by clicking on the "Twitter" link.  In the future, the school activity calendar could be added here or a district Facebook page.  There are many possibilities that are being explored.

Besides the fresh look, comments from the community had to do with removing what was perceived as clutter, and an effort was made to create faster and simpler access to the information our patrons are looking for. For this reason, the bar just above the rotating images has direct links to each of our attendance centers.  One click and the user will be at the individual school section of the website.

If you are looking for a quick way to get to more specific information at each school, then just by hovering your mouse over the school name, a drop down menu will appear that will show you even more direct links at the individual school level, as seen below.

On our current website, there were quicklinks at the top of the page that would allow the user to access specific sections of the website with one click.  However, the district was limited by the number of links that would show, and they seemed a little hidden away at the top of the page.  With the new site, the quicklinks will located on each page on the right side of the page, and in the form below on the right.  If the quicklinks are not there, based on the page being viewed, they will be on the left side of the page in the form shown on the left side below.

We sincerely hope that you enjoy the new and fresh look of our website make over.  Please remember that all the information you were looking for before is still here.  The information might be in a slightly different spot, but we hope it will be easier to access.  New information is being added to the website as well as new sections.  Please check back often to see what is happening.
