FMS Students Participate In The Hour of Code

As a part of Computer Science Education Week many FMS students had to participate in the Hour of Code.  The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. All 6th Grade Students had the opportunity to learn about coding in Mr. Copeland's Social Studies class. Mrs. Edlin's 5th, 6th, & 8th Grade GOAL students created coding independent study courses using www.code.org and other websites for javascript, html, and iOS. Mr. Owen's & Mr. Allison's 8th Grade IDEA classes had the opportunity to code during the month of December.

Learning coding techniques also helps children to develop critical thinking skills and problem solving processes that are not only important in computer science, but also in life. It teaches them how to look at the bigger picture, and to break down big challenges into smaller and more manageable tasks.  For more information, visit https://code.org/learn
