Seen any "STAR"s lately?

"STAR" Gazing

by Sue McCracken

Are you seeing STARs yet?  If you look closely at the photograph, you will notice the following statement on the T-shirts:

                                            I AM A STAR

I    Solve problems without fighting                                                                   Treat everyone with kindness                                                                      Accept consequences without arguing

                              Respect people and property

These are the four guidelines students will be following to become good citizens.  They are posted throughout the building in every room and the hallways.  Teachers and our counselor will be discussing the four positive behavior statements, and we will also be role-playing during our school family times to help students know how to properly respond to certain situations in the classroom, lunchroom, and on the playground.  These four guidelines would be excellent for all families to follow both at home and at school.

Even more good news:  when a student is observed exhibiting one of these character traits, that student will be given a ticket which will be taken to the office for a small reward; when any student has received three tickets, they will get their very own STAR T-shirt!  When we have a STAR day, everyone will wear their STAR shirts.  We'll be the brightest stars in the universe!
