Elementary Summer School Programs for 2008

by Sue McCracken

Elementary students will have two opportunities for summer school classes beginning July 28.  Students currently in kindergarten, first and second grades who are not reading at grade level have been invited to attend remediation classes, while all other second graders, third and fourth graders have been given information about enrichment classes.  Here is the information about the two programs:

Remediation Classes:

Dates:  July 28 - August 13

Time:  8:00 AM - 11:30 A.M. (lunch @ 11)

Location:  Pence Elementary

Cost:  There is no cost for the remediation classes

Lunch:  Lunch will be served from 11:00 - 11:30 A.M. each day.  Mr. McElwee has applied for a grant from the state which, if received, will provide lunches for all students attending summer school.  If the grant is not approved, lunch will be free or reduced for those who qualify and others would need to pay for lunches.  The lunch menu will be available on the web site the week prior to summer school and sent home with students the first day.

Transportation:  Transportation is provided for all students who do not live within walking distance of Pence.  A transportation form was sent with each enrollment form and should be filled out and returned whether or not transportation is needed.

Enrichment Classes:

Dates:  Week 1:  July 28 - August 1

           Week 2:  August 4 - 8

Location:  Pence Elementary

Time:  8:00 A.M. - 11:30 A.M. (lunch @ 11)

Cost:  $50 per week (checks payable to FCSD).  Payment must accompany registration.

Lunch and Transportation:  Same as for remediation (see above)

Registration and transportation forms for either remediation or enrichment classes need to be returned to the office of your child's school as soon as possible.  Letters will be sent by the end of the school year notifying parents of their child's remediation teacher or enrichment class.  Students' enrichment forms will be dated when returned to their school's office and classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.  Should a registration form for an enrichment class be returned after the class is filled, the office will try and contact parents to register for another class or refund the fee payment.

We look forward to this new format for summer classes. Other questions may be directed to building principals Joe Carr, Nathan Wear, or Sue McCracken.
